Colchester Zoo is now one of the finest Zoos in Europe due to a constant programme of development and has won the coveted “Large Visitor Attraction of the Year” Award and the “Sustainable Tourism Award” for its efforts in recycling and green practices from the East of England Tourist Board.

There is so much to see and do at Colchester Zoo, which provides fun for all the family. You can see sea lions swimming above your heads at Playa Patagonia, and see penguins swimming at Penguin Shores.
You can watch our baby white rhino Zamba, the first to be born in the UK through the process of Artificial Insemination playing along with the giraffes, zebras, greater kudu and ostriches together at the Kingdom of the Wild as well as visiting Ayo, our baby Pygmy Hippo inside at their enclosure in the Kingdom of the Wild building! Opposite you can see our herd of four elephants at Spirit of Africa. |

There’s Colchester Zoo’s Dragons of Komodo which houses the two Komodo Dragons, as well as some of the rarest big cats in the world including Amur tigers at Tiger Taiga.
Colchester Zoo's most ambitious profect to date is theOrangutan Forest which houses our two male orangutans in a wonderful new home complete with inside and outside viewing areas. It is also packed full of interactive information all about Orangutans, palm oil and deforestation.
Our latest new enclosure, Leopards at Ussuri Falls is also now open, and provides a larger home with separate enclosures for our Amur Leopards. The enclosure has also been fitted with a new training wall so that you can see how Colchester Zoo’s training techniques are used to enrich our animals’ lives and aid vital research that is helping conservationists to protect this animal in the wild. |

You can get closer to a whole range of animals during your visit including the unique chance to help feed the elephants and giraffes yourself!
The Wild About Animals Theatre provides many interactive and exciting displays daily with the chance to get closer to some of your favourite animals and find out more about them.
The Falconry Display Arena opposite also runs daily bird presentations, where you can watch different species flying around you! |

Constantly evolving, we have recently opened a new 'Wallaby Walk through'situated near our new African farm walkthrough which enables you to get really close to the wallabies, as well as a new extended Aardvark burrow and a new Amur Leopard enclosure which were completed early 2010.
Don't miss a visit to Colchester Zoo to have a chance to view these wonderful new developments, as well as taking in the many interactive, entertaining displays, special events and facilities on offer!
Colchester Zoo receives no external funding and every visit you make helps to fund the zoo's further development as well as assisting projects in the wild. |

Action for the Wild is Colchester Zoo’ charity dedicated to assisting conservation projects worldwide including its own project: the UmPhafa Private Nature Reserve in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. It provides both financial and technical assistance and aims to raise awareness with local people in community conservation programmes, as well as supporting conservation research work.
Recently Action for the Wild made a donation of £5,000 to the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF)which will aid the project in its future orangutan releases. |
