School children work together to adopt seven animals at Colchester Zoo!
The children of Year Eight at the Sanders Draper School in Hornchurch, Essex are to adopt, an impressive, seven different animals at Colchester Zoo following a fund raising campaign.
The children worked together as part of their pastoral care programme and each class within the year raised enough money to be able to adopt an animal at Colchester Zoo. One class raised a staggering £110, with which they bought a Gold adoption for Colchester Zoo’s White Tiger, Sasha.
Year Eight also went on a three day camping trip at Danbury Outdoor Pursuits Centre where they worked on team building activities and adventurous challenges including climbing, orienteering and Mountain Biking! During the three day trip, the children also had the opportunity to have a day out at Colchester Zoo to visit their adopted animals and learn more about them.
Louise Scorer,13, who actually happened to have her birthday on the same day, is a member of the class that adopted Sasha the White Tiger. When asked what she thought of Sasha she said “He looks like a big cuddly toy- his paws are huge though!”
Their Head of Year and trip coordinator reflected “It gave the students a chance to research the different animals in the zoo and the work that the zoo does. Visiting the zoo as part of the Year 8 Camp provided a highlight to the week and a chance for the students to reflect on the work they had done in their form groups this year.”
