Job Title: Play area vacancy

Colchester Zoo are looking for some staff to work weekends plus some weekdays particularly in the school holidays.  

Duties will include assisting children and parents in the indoor play area; face painting; manning the Sand Shop.

Successful applicants must be polite and courteous; and have a good customer service manner, and they must be able to work under pressure in a busy environment, and be prepared to dress up in both mascot costumes and fancy dress if required.

Job Title: Labourer

The Construction Team at Colchester Zoo are looking for someone to join them as a labourer to assist with the maintenance of existing structures and the construction of new exhibits and structures around the park. 

Successful applicants must be prepared to work outdoors in all weathers on some very uneven terrain. Previous experience in the building trade would be beneficial but is not essential.

This position is based on 5 days per week working Monday to Friday.

Job Title: Catering Staff

Colchester Zoo are looking to recruit full time and part time experienced staff available to work weekends and school holidays in the various catering outlets around the zoo, from Patisserie with table service, to food preparation in Penguinis and the Sandwich shop.

Duties will include serving customers; food preparation; clearing tables; washing up; restocking shelves; ensuring very high standard of food hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times together with high levels of customer satisfaction.

The successful applicants, must be flexible, be able to work both Saturdays and Sundays on a rota basis; as well as public holidays and school holidays.

Job title: Train Driver

Colchester Zoo are looking for someone to join the current team to drive the Road trains.  The successful applicant must have a full clean driving licence, be over the age of 25 years old, and be confident in public speaking. You would be responsible for driving passengers around the train routes, giving a commentary about the various animals you drive past, and ensuring that the train station is kept clean and tidy along with assisting with the cleaning around the nature reserve.

This is initially a TEMPORARY POSITION through to 31st October 2017 after which the contract will be reviewed. Full time or part time hours would be considered, but this position will include working weekends and bank holidays, together with the possibility of some evenings when the zoo has special events.

Job Title: Deputy Supervisor – Grounds Team

Colchester Zoo are looking for someone to assist with the management and supervision of the Grounds and Site Cleaners.

Along with assisting the team with litter picking; emptying bins; sweeping; pressure washing; you would also be assisting and cover the existing manager for holidays; days off and sickness, with producing rotas on a weekly basis; ensuring daily reports and records are completed and maintained; controlling stock of all cleaning equipment etc.

A knowledge of COSHH and a fork lift truck licence and a full/clean driving licence would be advantageous but not essential.

Applicants must be available to work 5 days per week on a 7 day rota so will involve working Saturdays and Sundays together with public holidays along with some late nights to cover special events.

Job title: Retail Assistants

We are looking for staff to join our retail department. There are 3 different hours available - 5 days per week, 3 days per week and weekends (please state which one you are applying for on your application)

Successful applicants will be working mainly in our Admissions kiosks and Gift Shops serving customers and restocking shelves, so must be prepared to work in a very busy and pressured environment.

Working hours will include working one and sometimes both weekend days together with a minimum of 3 or 4 days during school holidays and public holidays.

Job Title: Plumbing & Heating Engineer

Colchester Zoo are looking for a Plumbing and Heating Engineer to join us on either a full or part time basis, assisting with the installation of new and the maintenance of our oil and biomass heating systems; various filtration systems, and toilets and washroom facilities around the park.

Ideal applicants would have previous experience in the maintenance of biomass and oil fired boilers.

Full time hours would be working Monday – Friday and being on call at weekends and public holidays on a rotation basis.

 Job title: Retail Deputy Supervisor

A full time vacancy has arisen for a Deputy Supervisor within the retail department at Colchester Zoo.

The Role:
-To assist the retail Supervisors in the smooth running of the Retail and Admissions department.
-To be responsible for leading and motivating a large team of staff and ensuring that a high level of          
 customer service is provided at all times.
-To provide general shop management, including displaying merchandise, checking stock deliveries for any damages or discrepancies.
-To ensure all staff are upselling relevant zoo products within the admissions area and shops.

The Person:
-Proven experience in a Supervisory role within retail.
-Excellent people skills and able to remain calm under pressure.
-Should be computer literate, as a number of different systems are used within the department.
-A high standard of work ethic and organisational skills needed.

This is a permanent full time position 5 days a week on a 7 day rota.  The successful applicant will be required to work some weekend days, public holidays and school holidays.  Occasional early starts and evening work will be necessary for special events held during the year.  The salary is to be discussed at interview and will be based on experience.
