Session bookable now for visits from the 24th Feb 2020

This exciting contest enables secondary students who have visited Colchester Zoo and participated in our STEM Challenge Session to:

  • Refine and re-evaluate their ideas
  • Apply science and maths knowledge, creativity, and problem solving skills
  • Work together to solve a real-world STEM problem
  • Develop a prototype
  • Enter their design in the STEM Challenge Contest

How to participate:

  1. Bring your students to Colchester Zoo and attend the STEM challenge sessions (make sure to complete the provided research worksheets as part of your trip!)
  2. Back at school (in class or as part of a STEM club, etc.) students who wish to participate work in teams of (up to) six students to re-evaluate and refine their initial brainstorm ideas (make sure to compare ideas against the provided judging criteria)
  3. Student teams develop prototypes of their idea to help them test and refine their final solution
  4. Student teams submit video entries to Colchester Zoo by the contest deadline to participate
  5. All video entries will receive personalised real-world feedback from Colchester Zoo;
    the winning team will receive free entry to the zoo and a behind the scenes tour
