Opening times: 10:00- 13:30

We are holding our ever popular daily pumpkin carving competition! Bring along your carved pumpkin creation and enter it into our competition on the day of your visit to be in with a chance of winning a fantastic prize!

Please hand your ready carved entry in when you arrive for your visit, any day between 26th October – 3rd November, you will then be given a label to fill out with your contact details.

All entries must be handed in by 13:30 when a winner will be chosen. Once the winner is selected during a closed judging, you will be contacted on the number which you provided on your label and will be given the amazing opportunity to meet an animal that same day at 14:00 – You must already be in the zoo on the day you have entered and won the competition to be eligible to take part in the encounter.

After all the pumpkins have been judged they are given to the animals as a special enrichment perfect for getting them in the Halloween spirit! Keeping the animals entertained both mentally and physically is a full time job so watching the animals enjoy the enrichment is a great reward!

Please be aware that we are unable to return any pumpkin entries and in order for them to be used as enrichment we ask that you do not use anything to decorate your pumpkin such as glue, paint or glitter as this may be harmful to the animals at Colchester Zoo.

Happy Carving!
