• ARMADILLO – Meet a favourite amongst keepers and visitors alike, Gomez & Allie the hairy Armadillos!
• GIANT TORTOISE – Meet these prehistoric giants that are one of the largest reptile species found in the world.
• GIRAFFE – See how you measure up to these towering characters in this exciting, close-up encounter.
• HYENA – Meet these curious carnivores and hear about the important role they play out in the wild.
• LEMUR – This excitable bunch are always on the move, ready to make your encounter one to remember.
• MANDRILL – Come and meet our colourful troop full of mischief, that will leave a lasting impression.
• MEERKAT – Scurrying around, foraging or standing on sentry duty, they will be sure to captivate you.
• PENGUIN – Meet these waddling birds and become part of their ‘huddle’.
• RAINFOREST – Meet Titi monkeys, Marmosets and Tamarins during this experience! Our Sloths and Tamanduas may also be seen (this cannot be guaranteed).

Did you know? An aardvark’s tongue is around 30cm long and is used to catch termites and ants. They eat up to 50,000 insects each night.

Meeting one of the largest reptile species found in the world, you can hear about these fascinating creatures and how they move around their ‘turf’ from their Animal Care Team.
Did you know? The Aldabra giant tortoise is indeed a giant, with individuals reaching over 1 metre in length.

You will have the chance to get up close to some of our amazing species, such as Titi monkeys, Marmosets and Tamarins! Our Sloths and Tamanduas may also be seen during this experience, however this cannot be guaranteed.
Did you know?! This species of marmoset is ‘gumnivorous’, which means it likes feeding on he gum extract of trees!

Did you know? The mandrill is not only the largest monkey in the world, but it is also one of the most distinctive. It has an extremely striking face, with a red stripe down the nose and blue flanges framing it.

This experience will take your breath away as you go behind the scenes and see these stripy felines up close learning more about their plight in the wild and their clever adaptations from the Animal Care Team.
Did you know? Much like a human fingerprint, no two tigers have the same stripe pattern.

These animals truly stand head and shoulders above the rest and you will get the chance to see how you measure up to them in this close encounter.
Did you know? Giraffes are the tallest mammals in the world. Their legs alone are taller than many humans at about 6 feet high.

The lemurs are always on the move, leaping through their environment.
Did you know? Male ring-tailed lemurs compete for females via ‘stink fights’, smearing scent on their tails and wafting the smell towards their opponent.

Did you know? Meerkat clans, also known as mobs, hunt together and use designated lookouts, who rotate regularly, to keep watch. They also rely on a series of distinct calls to communicate with each other in the group.

This unique experience offers the chance to go behind the scenes with our Animal Care Team to meet Gomez and Allie to learn more about them and their species.
Did you know? The taxonomic name, ‘Chaetophractus villosus’, translates to “hairy shell hairy”.

Colchester Zoo is the only zoo in the UK where you can meet spotted hyenas.
You’ll meet these curious carnivores and hear about the important role they play out in the wild.
Did you know? During the final stages of an alpha female hyena’s pregnancy, she passes on high levels of different hormones to her pups, including Androgen, to help prepare them for life as a high-ranking hyena!

Their big personalities and social dynamic will leave you fascinated by this species.
Did you know? Penguins are monogamous and often choose to mate for life with just one partner.

These gentle giants have enormous personalities that you are bound to adore. This will be an encounter you’ll never forget.
Did you know? All rhinos have poor eyesight, but good hearing and a very good sense of smell, on which they depend.
