Your support is critical – now more than ever

Colchester Zoo is so much more than what some may say is ‘a zoo’ – our mission is to protect and care for wildlife and their habitats. Everything we do is with conservation in mind, animals are our passion and priority. We strive to raise awareness of the importance of caring for the amazing species we share our beautiful world with.

Colchester Zoo and it’s charity, Action for the Wild, rely on the income from annual memberships, ticket sales, secondary spend in our retail and catering outlets as well as animal experiences, adoptions and donations.

The usual daily running costs of the zoo is £25,479 plus veterinary care bills and other unexpected expenses. Throughout our closure the Animal Care Team continued to deliver the highest level of care to all of our animals and the upkeep of the park which they call home. Together you can help ensure that the care of our animals is not compromised during this crisis we continue to face despite reopening.

We appreciate everyone is facing financial constraints at the moment but if you are able to and would like to offer any support to the zoo via our operating fund to assist with our ongoing costs you can do so via the donation button below.

We have received some cheques in the post which we are very grateful for, however, we would kindly ask wherever possible that donations are processed online or via bank transfer due to the delay on cheques being banked at the moment.

We are aware that many of you have set up fundraising sites which is fantastic, however, please be aware that donating to us directly via our operating fund on our website is the quickest way for us to have access to the generous donations you are all kindly sending in.

If you do set up your own crowd funding please follow some key information below.

If you would like to set up a crowd funding page on GoFundMe, please allocate Colchester Zoo as the beneficiary of the funds when the money is withdrawn.
In order to do this, when you click on the withdrawal of funds from your account, please add the details Rebecca Moore into the beneficiary name section and use
This will then send Rebecca Moore, our Director of Conservation, Education and Research, an email to accept the donations and to set up the zoo’s bank account. Thereafter, on a periodic basis, the funds will be deposited directly into our emergency appeal. This is a quicker way to make the withdrawal and ensures we get the funds as quickly as possible.
Do note, that if the first withdrawal isn’t activated within 30 days of the first donation then the funds are held by GoFundMe for consideration, and if the first withdrawal isn’t activated within 90 days, then donations are returned to the donor. It is therefore important this is set up from the start so that you can continue to raise funds and the zoo receives them regularly.
