Information for Zoo Passholders
Can I visit the zoo if I am a Gold Passholder?
Zoo Passholders can now visit on weekdays during term time without the need to pre-book as well as AFTER 1pm on weekends and during school holidays. If you would like to visit BEFORE 1.00pm on weekends & school holidays you MUST pre-book your (free) ticket online in advance of your visit the same as paying visitors do to help us manage the number of visitors in the park and arrival times.
We will monitor our capacity throughout the day, entry for Passholders is dependent on the number of people within the zoo therefore after 1pm all free access for passholders is considered on a 1-out 1-in policy to ensure a safe number of visitors within the park.
What happened to memberships whilst the zoo was closed?
We appreciate that whilst we were closed our Zoo Passholders were unable to visit us therefore we have taken steps to ensure no passholder loses out as a result of COVID – 19.
When the zoo was closed on the 23rd March all current passes were ‘frozen’.
Upon reopening, unless requested otherwise, we extended all current Zoo Passholders by the period of time the zoo was closed in relation to their expiry date and also added an additional gratuity month. Although we are not reprinting Zoo Passes due to the number of those affected your current Zoo Pass will continue to scan on the gate until your new expiry date. If you are unsure of your new expiry date please do not hesitate to ask on your visit in Guest Services or drop us an email and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
During closure, following a number of passholders saying that they would rather not accept the extension but donate the time on their pass to the Zoo sent a communication via email to all passholders whose pass was valid to ask them to opt in or out of this extension. If unanswered we assumed that you would like both the extension of the month gratuity and the time we have been closed therefore have extended your pass.
If you did not receive this email we do apologise, it may be that your email address is incorrect or not held on your record. Therefore please do get in touch with us to update your information with us to ensure we are able to communicate with you in future.
If your Zoo Pass expired during the period of closure, we advised via our website and social media that you would have one month (4 weeks) from the date of the zoo re-opening to renew your pass to qualify for the 15% renewal discount. The new renewed pass would then be validated from the date of purchase rather than cosecutively from the date of expiry. As the zoo has now been open for over 4 weeks this offer has now expired.
If you have a Zoo Pass Gift Voucher please click here to find out more.
NB. The extension gesture is subject to change at any time and as with many things at the moment, we are unable to say how long this extension will be available for, but we will update you should the situation change.
We would like to thank all our loyal passholders for their support so far, your kind words kept up the morale of our team during the difficult time of closure.
We are currently receiving a high number of email enquiries and calls which we are responding to as soon as possible. We thank you for your patience, understanding and ongoing support in these very unusual times.
If you would like to offer further support and lend a helping hand you can do so via donating to the Colchester Zoo Operating Fund.
