Hours Per Week: Weekend & Weekday work. 5 days over a 7 day period.

At Colchester Zoo, our Outpost gift shop is looking for a new Retail Supervisor. As a supervisor, you will be working closely to the Store Manager to achieve company results and first-class customer experience.

Our supervisors are responsible for providing direction to team members, ensuring company standards and customer expectations are being met, upholding company’s values and mission statement.

You would be responsible for coordinating and managing staff effectively alongside the ‘OutPost’ gift shop itself. Ensuring merchandise is properly displayed, keeping inventory levels at an established level, and making sure all areas of the store are clean and orderly.

It essential our Retail Supervisor can lead by example, providing quality customer service while also being able to provide support and resolution to team members in challenging situations with customers.

As a supervisor you would report directly to the Retail Manager, offering guidance and support in additional duties such as monitoring sales, identifying areas in need of replenishment, and thus ordering products with suppliers as necessary.

Successful Candidates would be required to attend a Corporate Induction scheduled for Saturday 6th July. This is subject to change and a current proposed date of Induction. Initial starting dates will be after this date and subject to Notice periods.

Role Responsibilities

  • Leading by example and demonstrating exceptional standards of behaviour ensuring the integrity of Colchester Zoo is always maintained.
  • Drive and role model customer service standards to exceed customer expectations.
  • Training, coaching, and developing your team supporting the completion of appraisals and performance reviews.
  • To use effective planning and organisational skills.
  • Communicating and liaising with Management to maximise sales.
  • To ensure correct procedures are adhered to in a professional manner for your team and store including cash, stock, health and safety, office, security of premises, key holders, and loss prevention(NB, this list is not exhaustive)
  • To oversee and execute the ‘Outpost’ visual proposition to company standards including leading sale / new season launches and floor moves.
  • To abide by all Colchester Zoo policies and procedures and comply with legal obligations including safety requirements.
  • Ensure GDPR procedures are always adhered to maintain confidentiality.
  • In the absence of the Store Manager, take on holding responsibilities that ensure the continued success of your store in sales, standards, and staff development.

  • Use of local knowledge and creativity to maximise sales opportunities.
  • Ensure that the store is working to budget through effective scheduling, cost controls and staff productivity.
