Back in September 2018 our construction team began work on the zoo’s main entrance to create a brand new admissions building as part of phase one of our ticketing, admissions and shop redevelopment. We are excited to announce that as of the 20th March the first phase of the project will be complete and we will be opening this to visitors.
The new shop, named ‘The Outpost’ will not be complete until mid-late 2020 however, phase one of the shop is ready to open. With a bright, clean & modern look and feel, the new shop is also host to a variety of unique gifts and souvenirs.
The Outpost will be one large open plan shop with various departments to suit everyone and in phase two we will be introducing items for the garden, as well as a coffee lounge! It is hoped that The Outpost will become a shopping destination for those visiting the zoo but also for non-zoo visitors! With the zoo shop being out of town and car parking free of charge, The Outpost will offer the chance for visitors to enjoy a leisurely shop and catch up with friends over a coffee and cake.
Colchester Zoo’s new admissions building will also be open from the 20th March. This will provide quicker and easier access for all visitors into the park, with a dedicated admissions area separate to the ticketing office, which for now is temporarily situated in a dedicated building in the Car Park whilst phase 2 of the development is worked on to provide a brand new ticketing office linking into the admissions building. Find out more about the new entrance to the zoo here.
All of these improvements are being made with the visitors in mind, to provide a first class experience right from the point they enter the zoo. Watch this space for more information as this exciting project develops.
We would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation whilst these works take place and do apologise for any minimal disruption caused in the meantime.
