Thanks to your votes our cheetah cubs have been named!

The results are in…Introducing females Nova, Hope & Star and male cub Colonel Tom, or Tom for short!

The public vote to name our 3 female cheetah cubs after the NHS began after the 28th April when our Animal Care Team completed a health check with the cubs and revealed their genders. Sia had 3 girls and 2 boys, very sadly one of the male cubs passed away but our remaining 4 cubs continue to do well and with your help they now have their names!

We asked for your suggestions for female names beginning with an N, H and S in honour of all the amazing frontline staff working hard to save lives. Naming 3 of the cubs in honour of the NHS is just one way in which we can show our appreciation for their dedication to protecting and saving lives whilst putting their own lives at risk during this uncertain time.

After suggestions were received from the public our keepers shortlisted their favourites and you voted with the names Nova, Hope & Star coming out on top! Your fantastic donations raised over £3,500 which will go directly to helping us provide the highest standard of care to our animals.

Our male cub was then named by our keepers and in keeping with the theme they decided to name him after Colonel Tom who turned 100 this year and raised millions of pounds for the NHS through a sponsored walk.

As the cubs grow up and move on later in life to other zoos as part of the breeding programme they will take with them a part of history with their names being so significant.

We hope it won’t be long before you can come and see our 4 youngsters for yourselves as they explore outside, begin eating meat and continue growing into their spots!
