Warthog Piglets Named!

We are thrilled to announce that our two adult warthogs, Hermione and Moja, have become first-time parents, welcoming two healthy piglets on the 28th March 2021! The piglets have since been named Zuri & Zuma!

Mum, Hermione, arrived at Colchester Zoo in October 2019 to join Dad, Moja, who was born here in 2014! After the recent arrival of the piglets, Moja initially gave mum and piglets their space, but he has grown in confidence and they have now become a solid family unit.

This new family continue to do well and Zuri & Zuma can often be seen outside exploring as well as snuggled up with dad for a well-earned rest!

Our warthogs are fed a mixture of fruit, vegetables, hay and pellets, which ensures they get all the vitamins and minerals they need. Warthogs are currently listed as least concern on the IUCN Red List of endangered species, due to the species being widely distributed across sub-Saharan Africa.

*UPDATE* Our two warthog piglets have been named! Zuma & Zuri continue to grow strong and healthy!

It is hoped that Hermione and Moja will continue to breed successfully and help maintain the population of this species, but for now, this small family group can be seen enjoying time together during the warm spring weather at Edge of Africa!
