Our Warthog family has expanded once again with the arrival of two adorable male hoglets!

Back in 2022 our two adult Warthogs, Hermione and Moja, became parents to four with the arrival of Mbili, Tatu, Nne and Maimoona. Fast forward a year and they have now welcomed their third litter!

On the 8th March, our Animal Care Team were delighted to discover that our female Warthog, Hermione, had given birth to two healthy piglets. Since their welcomed arrival, the team have been able to assess the health of the piglets and confirm that they are both males. Our twins are currently awaiting names but we will keep you updated once confirmed.

Hermione arrived at Colchester Zoo in October 2019 from Munster Zoo, whilst Moja was born at Colchester Zoo in June 2014. Bother Hermione and Moja are once again proving to be excellent parents. The two piglets have already grown in confidence and can often be seen exploring their new home and enjoying the sunshine.

Warthogs are currently listed as ‘Least Concern’ on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Why not see if you can spot the new arrivals on your next visit at the Edge of Africa?
