After 8 years, we are delighted to welcome the return of Goeldi’s Monkeys (Callimico goeldii) back to Colchester Zoo!

On 3rd October, two male Goeldi’s Monkeys arrived after their journey from ZooNeuwied, in Germany where they were then relocated to their new home in our Worlds Apart habitat. For now, the two brothers will be kept in their indoor house to allow them time to adjust to their new surroundings before having access to their larger outdoor area. The pair have already settled in well and after arriving with no name, our Animal care Team have decided to call them Pedro and Pascal.

Pedro and Pascal are both 2 years old and will hopefully become part of a breeding programme in the future.

Goeldi’s Monkeys are currently classed as ‘Vulnerable’ on the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species due to a decline in their population.
