Dear Zoo Supporter,
At last, another page of the 2020 story has been turned and it seems reopening is only around the corner.
This morning, looking around the park, from keepers to our maintenance team, everyone seems to be rushing around as if there was little time left to achieve the targets set for the reopening.
This is the challenge reopening means to the staff of Colchester Zoo. We now have a clear mission to be ready for the big day on Wednesday 2nd December.
During the lockdown, we saw a return to the deadly quietness and lifelessness we had previously experienced, maybe to a lesser degree as the four weeks of lockdown have gone fairly rapidly. However, today the smiles have returned, the greater energy is apparent, and everyone is talking about next week.
So, it’s a big weight off our mind.
We have managed to survive, we are here looking after our animals the way we must and soon, we hope to be able to also look after many more new arrivals.
Next week we will feel as if we have been liberated from the grips of a nasty dream.
I am surprised how we have all learned to cope with the challenges of the pandemic and the closures which have been presented to us and now we are all much wiser after this experience.
So now is the time for us to ask you, the kind public, to help us, buy a ticket, renew your Gold Card, or purchase an adoption. Every penny will help us to survive in what is expected to be, a long and challenging winter.
Thank you yet again for your tremendous support and help over the past few months, I hope that from now on we can concentrate on our job of looking after our animals and the public rather than worrying if we will survive or not.
We can see a glimmer of hope for the future and hope normality will return in 2021 giving our lives back.
Your support has been unbelievable, so thank you once again, wishing you a Merry Christmas and I look forward to 2021 with renewed hope.
