Our Walking Giants enclosure is home to our Aldabra giant and African spurred tortoises, which are two of the four biggest tortoise species in the world!

Their home consists of both an indoor area for those chilly days and an large outdoor area for when the weather is warm, as they enjoy soaking up the sun.

Giant tortoises can grow up the 60cm long, which makes them Asia’s largest species of tortoise, they can also live for well over 100 years!

This enclosure has been developed in memory of leading aviculturist and friend of Colchester Zoo, Raymond Sawyer.
